The space
Staying in the Cob Bear Hut is a true retreat in nature. Architecturally designed using natural patterns, this 900-square-foot cabin is totally off-grid with solar electricity and a wood-burning stove. You'll also have the option to use the outdoor self-composting toilet and the outdoor shower with privacy fencing. The toilet is a short walk through the medicinal herb garden.
The Bear Hut has direct private parking all the way to the front door.
There is no cell reception in our beautiful forest, but you have good free WiFi available in the home for work or recreation. Also, you can enjoy voice-over Wifi calling if you set your device up before arriving. Wifi speed is 12 Mbps Down-4 Mbps Up; a ground-based microwave relay.
Guest access
We have 160 acres of lush private forest to explore. There are beautiful natural buildings to visit, including a cob sauna built and designed by SunRay Kelley- an internationally renowned natural builder; a huge redwood-grove treehouse; and a meditation gazebo- all these treasures are open for guests to enjoy and retreat. We run the sauna seasonally during Spring and Fall on Saturdays upon request,
but you are welcome to explore whether or not it is being run, as it is a piece of art.

Set among 160 acres of natural forest, the Bear Hut is a charming straw bale cabin, a beautiful natural building, with crafted cob walls and floors made from our forest clay and natural resources. Being inside a cob building gives a sense of grounding, safety, and calm, similar to being nestled, cradled in the redwoods. Lulled by the sound of wildlife, the trees, the creek,
and the stars. Totally off the grid and functional during outages. This is a spectacular glamping experience in nature.
